From the Bude Food Bank Manager, 8th March 2019 (edited):
Dear St. Paul's,
I am so sorry for the delay in sending this email but we have been very busy and the days go by so fast.
But on another note, thank you all for your continued support. I thought I would give you some figures so you can see the importance of our Food Bank. December was the busiest month ever since we started in 1997. We sent out 372 food parcels, which fed 468 adults and 589 children. Included in the food parcels were toys given to the families. These toys were again donated by individuals and local companies, for which we are very grateful.
Then January came and we gave out 60 food parcels, which again fed 88 adults and 71 children. This also was 20% up on 2018, and then in February total food parcels were 61. We fed 80 adults and 63 children, and still a 20% increase on last year. Upon talking to our clients there are many different reasons. The main one at present is that they are working but just not earning enough to pay bills and feed their families. So as you can see, your continued support is so important to us.
We have now changed our opening times, and they are as follows: Mon, Tues, Thurs, Friday 9.30 am - 1.30 pm. We are now closing on Wednesdays.
We are still in need of the following items: sugar, coffee, jam / chocolate spread, pasta sauce, biscuits, orange juice, UHT milk, washing up liquid, rice (1 kg) and toiletries.
God bless you all..
Kind regards,
Bude Food Bank Manager.

Dec 2018
Thanks from the Manager, Bude Food Bank:
"I would like to thank you all for your wonderful Harvest Festival donation. You collected 45.5 kgs and this will really help those in need. Our figures are still showing an increase of 65% more than last year. This is for many reasons but the main one is that the benefits have now changed and there is a wait of at least 5 weeks before it gets sorted out. So families are without money for most of that time and it is a big concern in our area, so thank you all for your continued support.
We are now collecting Christmas gifts and food for those in need. God bless you all."

Thanks from Bude Food Bank (edited):
“Since moving into our new premises last June things have been hectic and then suddenly Christmas was upon us, but we have come through it. The 2017 figures were a big shock to us all, so I thought you would like to know the following information:
January 1st, 2017 - December 31st, 2017:
Total number of Food Parcels for this period: 495
Total number of adults fed: 795
Total number of children fed: 859
These figures still show us that it is families rather than single people that we are helping; without the kindness and support from everyone we would not be able to help those in need, so thank you for your contributions.
God Bless”

Thanks from CAFOD
..for our donation of £24.83 collect during the Lent Fast Day 2015 appeal:
"Dear Father Storey,
I'm writing to extend my warmest thanks to you and everyone at St Paul for your generous gift to our Lent Fast Day appeal.
Your generosity will make it possible for some of the poorest and most vulnerable communities in the world to withstand terrible storms and floods, which sadly are becoming more severe and more frequent.
CAFOD's local partners in countries like Myanmar are helping villages to learn cyclone drills, with support from gifts like yours.
The leader in one village....described their new cyclone drill to us: "Now when we get warning of a storm, we have a loud speaker, to announce to the village a storm is coming. We gather ten strong men and put our possessions into a boat. Then we distribute rice so we each have some, ready for the storm. Then we go to higher ground to protect ourselves. Now we have disaster training, we know what to do in a disaster. Before we had the training our losses would have been great, now I think they would be far, far less."
As you know, this Lent the UK government is matching every pound raised for CAFOD's work, up to a total value of £5 million - which means your parish's giving this Lent will have double the impact. Thank you so much for making all this possible.
Thank you all so much for your ongoing support to CAFOD's work with the poorest and most vulnerable people around the world, - for your giving, your prayers and your solidarity with them. Please continue to pray for those we work with."

... for the £33.80 raised from the sale of the Harvest Festival on Sunday 3rd October. The Money will be send to the Jesuit Missions in London to benefit lepers and those infected with AIDS/HIV...The Chinese government gives these people only $5.40 [about £4] per family for living expenses per month, even if they have healthy children and they pay school fees in excess of that amount. Even in a country where things are much cheaper, this neither sustains them, nor pays for their medication. It cost £4.85 per month to give a leper the medication to halt the progress of leprosy.
