Thanks from Tom O'Connor

..Director - Communities and Supporters, CAFOD, for our donation of £24.83 collect during the Lent Fast Day 2015 appeal:

"Dear Father Storey,

I'm writing to extend my warmest thanks to you and everyone at St Paul for your generous gift to our Lent Fast Day appeal.

Your generosity will make it possible for some of the poorest and most vulnerable communities in the world to withstand terrible storms and floods, which sadly are becoming more severe and more frequent.

CAFOD's local partners in countries like Myanmar are helping villages to learn cyclone drills, with support from gifts like yours.

The leader in one village, a man called U Than Win, described their new cyclone drill to us: "Now when we get warning of a storm, we have a loud speaker, to announce to the village a storm is coming. We gather ten strong men and put our possessions into a boat. Then we distribute rice so we each have some, ready for the storm. Then we go to higher ground to protect ourselves. Now we have disaster training, we know what to do in a disaster. Before we had the training our losses would have been great, now I think they would be far, far less."

As you know, this Lent the UK government is matching every pound raised for CAFOD's work, up to a total value of £5 million - which means your parish's giving this Lent will have double the impact. Thank you so much for making all this possible.

Thank you all so much for your ongoing support to CAFOD's work with the poorest and most vulnerable people around the world, - for your giving, your prayers and your solidarity with them. Please continue to pray for those we work with.

Best wishes,

(signed)
Tom O'Connor
Director - Communities and Supporters"

"Dear Carolina,

I hope these lines find you well!

Thanks a lot for your donation of £42.95 (received in Oct. 2014) through the Jesuit Mission office, to support the needy ones under our care. May our Lord bless your generosity!

Our work in China for the people affected and infected by leprosy or HIV AIDS continues and increases day by day. Thanks to our Lord, through the intercession of Fr. Ruiz and the support of friends like you, we are able to care for the basic and most important needs of thousands of people in China.

Carolina, I would like to send you a big hug on behalf of all of them, thanking the Lord for your friendship and support to our mission to serve the poor and marginalized people in China, building communities with them. Here in China, the "year of the Horse" is coming to an end, while the "year of the Goat" is approaching. Chinese New Year is a time to give thanks, rebuild family ties and prepare ourselves for the new year to come.

May the Lord's Love and Joy be with you and your family throughout this year!

In Christ,

... for the £33.80 raised from the sale of the Harvest Festival on Sunday 3rd October. The Money will be send to the Jesuit Missions in London to benefit lepers and those infected with AIDS/HIV. They are administered to by Fr Luis Ruiz, SJ, now 94 (!) years old and still a missionary in China! The Chinese government gives these people only $5.40 [about £4] per family for living expenses per month, even if they have healthy children and they pay school fees in excess of that amount. Even in a country where things are much cheaper, this neither sustains them, nor pays for their medication. It cost £4.85 per month to give a leper the medication to halt the progress of leprosy.  Nov 2010
